L’État français a fait de nombreux efforts ces dernières années pour la sauvegarde et la connaissance du patrimoine architectural et mobilier religieux. Au moment où la convention de 2003 de l’UNESCO sur le patrimoine culturel immatériel entre en application en France, il paraît intéressant de développer, parallèlement aux travaux d’inventaire et de restauration des objets du patrimoine religieux (liturgique et sacré), des programmes d’archives orales autour des traditions et des pratiques religieuses individuelles et collectives qui accompagnent ces objets et leur donnent sens.
