Abstract
English This article highlights current challenges in preparing social work students for international practicums in sub-Saharan Africa. Changes in the region since 1990 and corresponding modi.cations in orientations provided by Canadian NGOs sending volunteers are summarized. Implications of replicating the latter's focus on risk management are considered for schools of social work.
