We develop a simple thermodynamic model, using surface thermodynamics consistent with the capillarity approximations and regular solution theory, to describe the solubility transition observed in non-volatile liquid droplets surrounded by a partially miscible solvent vapor. The free energy landscape of the model exhibits a hysteresis loop similar to that observed in the deliquescence of small soluble salt particles. The model is used to study the effects of non-volatile particle size on the location of the transition and we show that the growth factor of the particles, at the point where the transition becomes activated, decreases with initial particle size.
