Comme le montre une relecture comparative de la documentation statistique sur les usages du Web, deux types de navigation concernent une majorité d’internautes : le Web pratique et le Web de divertissement. De ce constat, il faut tirer deux types de conclusion. La première conclusion est qu’en raison de biais « médiatiques » ou « économiques », la plupart des « palmarès » donnent souvent une image en trompe-l’œil de la « révolution Internet » et des comportements moyens des internautes. La seconde est que les usages jugés « triviaux » du Web jouent un rôle de révélateur à la fois sur les évolutions techniques d’Internetet sur les nouvelles contraintes familiales, sociales ou professionnelles auxquelles doit faire face la majorité des internautes.
