Abstract
Les principaux critiques de l’approche de la régulation y voient une tentative infructueuse de construire des modèles de croissance formels, propres à chaque période de stabilité. Le problème est réel, et relève d’une tension entre la recherche de déterminants économiques et la reconnaissance du caractère exogène du politique. Cette tension se traduit par une coupure en deux phases, une plus économique, où les rapports sociaux sont à peu près figés, et une autre plus politique, où ils sont remis en question. L’article tente de démontrer qu’une telle coupure, qui isole l’économique du politique, n’est justifiée ni par l’épistémologie, ni par la méthode, et introduit une contradiction majeure dans le programme de recherche régulationniste. L’argument présenté ici rejette une telle coupure, en insistant sur le caractère précaire de toute régulation, en relativisant l’importance de la formalisation, et en réaffirmant les fondements marxistes et keynésiens de l’approche. Cette remise en question impose des révisions théoriques et empiriques significatives, mais elle semble nécessaire.
