Cet article examine l’écriture cinématographique de deux cinéastes dans leur représentation des figures historiques de l’espace francophone d’Afrique noire et de sa diaspora caribéenne. Ecriture déjà selon son étymologie, le cinéma enrichit ses ambitions artistiques et esthétiques par l’appropriation particulière que chaque cinéaste fait de ses techniques. Les stratégies du montage employées par David Achkar et Charles Najman dans Allah tantou et Royal Bonbon respectivement sont au centre de l’étude. La grille sémio-structuraliste – elle combine les outils de la sémiotique et du structuralisme essentiellement – encadre l’analyse focalisée sur le fonctionnement du montage dans les deux films, les effets qu’il produit et leurs significations. L’étude montre que l’esthétique subjective des deux cinéastes s’affranchit de toute inféodation à quelque norme établie. Leur art est une illustration de l’écriture cinématographique d’une tranche de l’histoire afro-antillaise au moyen du genre biographique.
