Abstract
Deux thèses sont défendues : premièrement, il existe une différence d’espèce entre le gouvernement représentatif et la démocratie représentative ressaisie à travers l’idée de présence. Deuxièmement, les revendications de droits spécifiques de représentation formulées aujourd’hui en faveur de groupes marginalisés ne signalent pas une crise de la démocratie représentative, mais une radicalisation de l’exigence de présence qui s’apparente à certaines des revendications ouvrières du XIX e siècle. L’enjeu est de mettre en cause l’idée qu’il y aurait rupture entre une politique dite « traditionnelle », qui serait affaire d’idées et/ou d’intérêts, et une nouvelle politique identitaire.
