Abstract
L’implémentation de l’industrialisation a été accompagnée, dans le Canada du XX e siècle, de la mise en place d’un cadre politico-économique axée sur la rationalisation des processus de production et la mise en place d’une idéologie méritocratique. Dans ce cadre, la langue et l’éducation devenaient des critères légitimes de discrimination à l’emploi. Dans cet article, j’étudie, à partir de documents d’archives et d’articles scientifiques portant sur l’industrialisation, l’émergence du concept de compétence linguistique et les tensions que celui-ci soulevait pour une minorité linguistique, l’Acadie.
