Propelled into the national spotlight by unprecedented attention from governments, decision makers, and researchers, home care in Canada is evolving to make its maximum contribution to the health care system. Commencing with an overview of home care in Canada and its fit within the health system, this article showcases recent landmark events and initiatives in Canada's home care sector and describes the context for home care management and practice today. The article closes by identifying strategies to optimize home care's incredible potential to transform the health care system by leading innovations that maximize client access to customized and timely health knowledge, information, and care.
