Abstract
D’entrée de jeu, l’auteur pose la question « Pourquoi parler de l’artiste et évoquer son statut? ». Il répond en affirmant qu’il n’est pas de sujet plus décisif que celui des symboles et de la réalité. Pourtant, précise-t-il, les sociétés ont tragiquement tendance à nier l’artiste. Cela se fait entre autres à travers le développement des industries culturelles qui revêtent le travail des créateurs d’un label autorisant son exploitation. Dans ce contexte, bien que leur contribution à l’évolution socio-économique et culturelle soit fondamentale, les artistes connaissent des conditions de vie et de travail très précaires. En fait, ils stagnent dans une situation juridique aussi indécente que l’est l’indigence de leurs moyens socio-économiques, ce qui n’est pas sans danger pour la création elle-même. Ces constats amènent l’auteur à s’interroger sur le statut de l’artiste en tenant compte de l’incidence qu’ont sur la condition d’artiste : le contrat pour les prestations artistiques, la rémunération, la fiscalité, les conventions collectives, la circulation des oeuvres et la formation professionnelle.
