Les techniques spatiales et plus particulièrement les images des Radars à Synthèse d’Ouverture (RSO) de RADARSAT-1 pour les régions côtières offrent une information de qualité là où les mesures terrestres sont trop rares et les modèles météorologiques limités. Dans cet article nous présentons une méthodologie utilisant des images RSO avec des données du diffusiomètre QuickSCAT et des mesures locales pour obtenir des images du vent de la surface maritime du golfe du St-Laurent. Les cartes du vent obtenues pour 10 images RADARSART-1 sont à une haute résolution spatiale (400 m), sur des grandes régions (300 km) et avec une précision évaluée à 1.5 m/s. Les principaux avantages de cette technique, l’observation de la variabilité spatiale du vent et de l’influence de la topographie environnante, sont mis en évidence sur deux exemples.
