Abstract
Pendant 40 ans et sans discontinuer, entre 1929 et 1969, les quelques 1 000 leçons des 43 cours à domicile de l’UCC ont marqué le milieu rural et agricole québécois. A raison d’un cours par année, tous les cours ont été publiés dans l’hebdomadaire La Terre de chez nous, fondée en 1929, et dont le tirage en 1950 atteignait 80,000 copies. L’ensemble des cours représente un livre de 8 000 pages. Les thèmes abordés vont de la technique des sols à la gestion d’entreprise, de l’entretien du tracteur à la doctrine sociale de l’Église, de la relève agricole à la réforme scolaire au Québec. Plus de 90 auteurs provenant de l’Institut agricole d’Oka, de l’École d’agriculture de La Pocatière et du Secrétariat général de l’UCC ont assuré la rédaction des leçons. Bref, les cours à domicile constituent une source documentaire susceptible d’inspirer, encore aujourd’hui, le monde rural québécois.
