Abstract

L’objectif des auteurs est d’analyser la structuration de l’industrie de la production des logiciels et des services informatiques au Canada et celle du marché canadien pour ces produits et services. Dans une première partie, on trace un portrait quantitatif de l’industrie afin de cerner ses principaux traits structurels : la prédominance des petites entreprises, une spécialisation marquée par secteur, un degré relativement élevé de concentration dans chaque secteur principal. La deuxième partie s’intéresse à l’évolution de cette industrie au Canada du milieu des années soixante jusqu’à 1994. On souligne que la structuration s’est faite par vagues successives de mise en place de secteurs et de prise de leadership dans l’industrie par un secteur différent selon les périodes. Finalement, dans la dernière partie, les auteurs examinent l’évolution du marché de l’informatique au Canada et celle de la demande en logiciels et services informatiques et montrent l’importance du secteur public dans le développement de ce type de demande.
