Abstract
La naissance du machinisme moderne Les historiens de l'agriculture européenne ont généralement considéré l'adoption de la jachère comme un des facteurs déterminants d'une révolution agricole qui se serait produite avant la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Un retour aux écrits agronomiques de la période 1750-1850 permet de constater que cette pratique, dont le sens originel a été perdu, n'a pas tenu le rôle qu'on a voulu lui faire jouer. En examinant l'histoire d'une machine à séparer les grains, le tarare, l'auteur veut démontrer que la révolution agricole a plutôt été, pour une large part, liée au développement progressif du machinisme.
