Abstract
Cette communication tente de montrer le rôle des religieux et l’influence qu’ils ont exercée dans la propagation du mouvement régionaliste ou terroiriste québécois dans le premier tiers du xxe siècle. Ces religieux ont été d’ardents défenseurs des valeurs traditionnelles alors que s’amorçait au Québec ce qui deviendra, dans les années 1940, une ère dite de modernité. La communication examine aussi l’impact de ces auteurs sur divers concours qui ont rejoint une foule de participants, mais aussi un très grand nombre de lecteurs et lectrices, tels, par exemple, les concours de la Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montréal, dans les années 1910 et 1920. Plusieurs de ces religieux ont été des chefs de file du mouvement, tels l’abbé Lionel Groulx (Les Rapaillages), les frères Marie-Victorin (Récits laurentiens), Noël Gosselin (Les choses qui s’en vont), etc. Ils ont été dans leur milieu des propagateurs des valeurs que défendent les textes régionalistes et ont poussé plusieurs auteurs à participer à ce mouvement. En ce sens, ils ont été des collecteurs importants de la tradition.
