Filmer, montrer, entendre des savoir-faire. Regards et écoutes croisés dans la médina de Fès. En opérant un retour sur le déroulement d’une enquête ethnofilmique menée auprès des dinandiers de la médina de Fès, cet article s’interroge sur ce qui est initialement apparu comme une contradiction : les travailleurs ont tous accepté la présence de l’ethnologue-cinéaste et de sa caméra dans leurs ateliers, mais ils ne s’impliquaient pas lors des entretiens prenant appui sur les films. Ce texte offre un éclairage sur les décalages pouvant exister entre les discours de ces artisans et la réalité sociotechnique de leur condition, tout en présentant une réflexion sur certaines caractéristiques d’une méthode de recherche ethnographique fondée sur une pratique cinématographique. Afin de s’accommoder d’une situation qu’ils rejettent, les artisans reprennent les termes d’un discours patrimonial idéalisant une réalité socio-économique ; le contexte du travail favorise l’établissement d’une forme de coopération originale entre filmant et filmés ; le refus de procéder à un échange de vues prenant appui sur les films peut être productif dans la compréhension d’un objet de recherche.
