Abstract
Cet article analyse la représentation du travail et du libéralisme dans le cinéma français des années 1990 et 2000. Nous partons du constat que plusieurs films qui s'intéressent au monde du travail en donnent une vision dystopique. La loi de l'économie libérale y est représentée comme phagocytant les relations sociales, les liens familiaux et les solidarités sans qu'aucune échappée ne soit esquissée. Notre hypothèse est la suivante: si ces films n'offrent aucune alternative à cette loi qu'ils condamnent, c'est qu'ils imaginent le désir dans des termes proches de ceux proposés par René Girard: tension pour combler un manque métaphysique et source d'inévitables conflits. À l'inverse, Elle est des nôtres de Siegrid Alnoy (2003) et Ce Vieux rěve qui bouge d'Alain Guiraudie (2000) invitent, à la suite de Gilles Deleuze ou de Guy Hocquenghem, à envisager le désir comme force créatrice, principe contestataire et utopique.
