Abstract
Cet article cherche à découper dans le corpus hagiographique québécois du XIX e siècle et du début du XX e un corpus spécifiquement littéraire correspondant au genre des Vies. Deux grandes séries, portant surtout sur les fondatrices de communautés religieuses, sont mises à l’étude : la légende de la Nouvelle-France qui réunit les Vies publiées sous la plume d’Étienne-Michel Faillon et d’Henri-Raymond Casgrain, et la légende de monseigneur Bourget qui, sous des signatures diverses, réunit les Vies de fondatrices ayant oeuvré sous ce prélat. L’objectif est ici d’analyser ce qui particularise les Vies québécoises en regard de la tradition européenne et d’étudier ce que ces particularités révèlent sur le champ littéraire québécois au XIX e siècle.
