En 2008, une équipe de la University of Western Ontario a entrepris la fouille du gymnase de Nysa sur le Méandre, en Turquie du sud-ouest. Nous avons localisé les fondations du portique ouest du gymnase et mis au jour certain de ses composantes architecturales. Deux autres découvertes n'ont pas manqué de nous surprendre. Premièrement, dans des niveaux datables des V e et VI e siècles par la céramique, une concentration de conduites d'eau en terre cuite indique que le portique ouest du gymnase a été transformé en un important axe nord-sud de distribution d'eau dans l'Antiquité tardive. L'autre découverte était plus inattendue, soit un fragment d'architrave apparemment inscrit du nom de Pluton. Si cette interprétation est juste, il s'agirait d'une preuve de la continuation d'une connexion, attestée par Strabon à l'époque d'Auguste, entre le gymnase de Nysa et le sanctuaire de Pluton à Acharaka dans le II e siècle avancé.
