Abstract
Il s’agit ici de reconsidérer la vision qu’offrent de cet “état”/estamento aussi bien l’historiographie vénézolaniste classique que l’historiographie plus novatrice de ces dernières années, et de poursuivre la mise en évidence des pratiques effectives de la “pardocratie” évoquée pour ne pas dire dénoncée par le Libertador. Cette approche se centrera sur l’analyse du discours de certains métis les plus favorisés sur le plan social et en termes de représentation politique, et tout particulièrement des curanderos, avec, en contrepoint, les positions restrictives exprimées par les élites sociales et politiques, voire scientifiques du moment, à l’égard de ces catégories urbaines « subalternes ». Le contexte des célébrations et commémorations réalisées par les institutions académiques et culturelles des pays latino-américains concernés soulève en effet des interrogations très actuelles qu’il convient de prendre en considération, au-delà de l’imposition à cette occasion de nouvelles histoires officielles.
