Abstract
Canadian domestic or on‐shore applied anthropology is examined beginning with historical background from the Nineteenth through to the mid‐Twentieth Century. It is only through the exponential growth of Canadian anthropology in the 1960s that its applied branches find their niches. Applied anthropology diversifies first into primary emphases on policy critiques, development, and northern and Aboriginal issues and then secondarily to resource industries, multiculturalism, immigration, health, and advocacy.
