Abstract
Stimulation of gastric secretion was produced in gastric fistula bearing rats infused i.v. for 24 h with 2-deoxy D-glucose (2-DG). When 2-DG was infused simultaneously with maximal dose of histamine, gastric secretion was higher than when stimulated with either of these stimulants given separately Bilateral vagotomy abolished the secretory function of Vagotomy parietal and zymogenic cells during the non-stimulated, interdigestive phase of gastric secretion in rats. Bilateral vagotomy abolished also 2-DG stimulated gastric secretion and significantly decreased the post-histamine gastric secretion. It appears that 2-DG acts on gastric mucosa only in the presence of intact vagi. The presence of vagi also enhances the action of histamine on gastric secretion.
