À partir de 1920, dans la Policlinique Psychanalytique de Berlin, de nombreux citoyens ont été traités par des débutants. En raison de la responsabilité envers les patients ainsi que dans le but de former et de corriger les analystes débutants, une « analyse de contrôle » fut introduite par le directeur Eitingon. Depuis, elle est un élément principal de la formation de l’analyste, et il en existe des conceptions divergentes, concernant la question de savoir qui ou quoi contrôler, de quelle façon, et sur quoi l’analyste contrôleur devrait porter son attention. Le texte examine l’exposé présenté par Helene Deutsch (Vienne) au Congrès d’Innsbruck en 1927 et de nouveau au « Vierländertagung » en 1935 dans le contexte des positions prononcées par Max Eitingon (Berlin) et Vilma Kovács (Budapest). Il discute la relation entre analyse didactique et analyse de contrôle ainsi que la différence entre « analyse de contrôle » et « contrôle d’analyse » ou « analyse sous contrôle ». L’analyse de contrôle en tant que partie de la formation se distingue de l’analyse de contrôle en tant que formation constante de l’analyste.
