(2002) present 129I analyses of hypersaline brines from the Con gold mine in Yellowknife (Northwest Territories). The authors assume that the 129I formed by 238U fission within the metabasalt host rocks and diffused from the rock matrix into the fracture fluid, explaining its present concentration therein. Knowing the U concentration in the metabasalt, the authors apply the in situ 129I production and migration model developed for the Stripa granite by Fabryka-Martin et al. (1989) and argue that the 238U-129I system in the Precambrian shield achieved secular equilibrium, indicating a residence...
