Abstract
Vivre sa mort est une réalité complexe, voire paradoxale qui échappe à l’expérience immédiate. L’article l’aborde à la lumière de l’expérience religieuse fondamentale de l’Afrique noire. En partant des rites funéraires et des rites initiatiques en tant que morts symboliques, on établit un parallélisme systématique, une homologie suggestive, entre la dynamique africaine de la mort initiatique qui fait avancer sur l’axe dialectique d’accroissement de la vie et l’économie du salut par la croix qui ouvre à l’homme l’accès à Dieu. Cette caractéristique partagée permet de voir dans la croix du Christ une réalisation concrète devant laquelle la tradition initiatique peut se redécouvrir comme dans un miroir, tout en y découvrant quelque chose de facilement crédible. La réalité du vivre sa mort est donc saisie, au point où logique chrétienne et logique africaine se rencontrent. Elle apparaît comme une disposition religieuse et une marche de la personne humaine dans l’élévation spirituelle vers Dieu.
