Abstract
De tous les conteurs du xixe siècle, dont les récits ont été fixés à l’écrit par des littéraires, Jos Violon est indéniablement le meilleur et probablement le plus authentique. Par l’entremise de ce conteur d’expérience à qui il délègue la parole, Fréchette ne fait que reproduire la simulation du conte oral et de l’échange verbal entre un conteur et son public. S’il est moralisateur, Jos Violon est aussi pédagogue, comme tout bon conteur qui maîtrise bien l’art de conter, et il n’oublie jamais ses auditeurs, que l’on sait présents constamment, même s’ils n’interviennent pratiquement pas pour ne pas déranger le conteur, selon cette convention tacite religieusement observée dans la narration du conte. Ces auditeurs passifs, sauf en de très rares exceptions, sont essentiels à l’acte d’énonciation. Cet exposé examinera le passage de l’oral à l’écrit, tel que l’écrivain Louis Fréchette l’a réalisé en immortalisant Jos Violon dans huit de ses récits.
