Abstract
À la lecture des mémoires du milieu de l'éducation présentés au gouvernement du Québec en 1991 sur l'immigration, il apparaît qu'ils ont été fort peu influencés par les projections démographiques qui prévoyaient une baisse de l'importance relative des francophones dans l'île de Montréal accompagnée d'une augmentation de la proportion d'allophones. En outre, une comparaison des données du recensement de 1991 avec les résultats des projections publiées peu avant montre que ces dernières sont restées bien en deça de la réalité, ne pouvant donc avoir suscité, dans les milieux de l'éducation, un discours " alarmiste ".
