Abstract Eight polymorphic simple sequence repeats (SSRs) markers were developed for Amphicarpaea edgeworthii Benth., an amphicarpic species in East Asia. The low level of heterozygosity in populations and the high level of population differentiation found in this study suggest that A. edgeworthii has a mixed mating system that is predominantly selfing. The findings also indicate that the new markers can be used in genetic analyses of the mating system and the estimation of the construction of progeny populations contributed by chasmogamously and cleistogamously produced seeds.
