Abstract
Résumé Relativement peu de P.M.E. ont obtenu la certification ISO 14001, qui est pourtant devenue la référence mondiale en matière de gestion environnementale. Si l’obtention de cette certification peut apporter divers bénéfices, les P.M.E. font face à de nombreux obstacles liés notamment à la lourdeur du processus de certification. Cet article vise à comparer les voies d’adoption possibles de la norme ISO 14001. Il présente trois études de cas illustrant comment cette norme peut être intégrée efficacement à partir de trois approches : les approches individuelle, collective et progressive. Tout d’abord, un bilan du développement de la norme ISO 14001 est dressé. Par la suite, les bénéfices de cette norme pour les P.M.E. et les freins à son adoption sont exposés. Puis, nous analysons les différentes démarches adoptées par trois P.M.E. afin de montrer comment les dirigeants peuvent relever le défi de la mise en œuvre de la certification ISO 14001. Finalement, les préalables nécessaires à l’intégration efficace de cette norme dans les P.M.E. sont explicités.
