Abstract
À partir des années 1810, la direction du service de santé de la marine de Rochefort met en place un registre des autopsies dans lequel seront consignées les différentes autopsies pratiquées sur les personnels de l’arsenal. L’objectif de cette étude sérielle des cadavres répond à un désir d’approfondissement des connaissances médicales sur le corps, ainsi qu’au perfectionnement de l’apprentissage des élèves formés dans l’hôpital-école de la marine. Pratiquées par le prévôt et les élèves les plus aguerris de l’institution, les autopsies s’intègrent dans un rituel cognitif dont il convient de décrypter les différents aspects, pour mieux expliciter la filiation historique du médecin au cadavre d’une part et au patient d’autre part.
