Abstract
À partir des réflexions théoriques de Linda Hutcheon, nous étudierons deux exemples de construction ironique dans Tombeau de Romain Gary : le titre et le refrain. En ce qui concerne le titre, le sens littéral représente le tombeau en tant que genre littéraire qui surgit au XVIe siècle; le sens possible se fait par les critiques et les analyses, littéraires et biographiques, qui forment la charpente d’un essai; l’entre-deux aboutit à l’érection d’un tombeau pour un écrivain qui n’en a jamais eu un. Le refrain accuse l’inadéquation de la question posée à la mère et la critique perçante et moqueuse de la féministe qui signale le caractère maladif de la relation entre Romain Gary et sa mère, Nina. Les rapports entre les images de la mère, l’une bâtie par Romain Gary dans La promesse de l’aube et l’autre par Nancy Huston dans Tombeau de Romain Gary, produisent le troisième sens de l’ironie.
