Raoul Blanchard (1877-1965) eut un rôle et une influence considérable dans la formation de la géographie québécoise. Un examen attentif de l'oeuvre blanchardienne permet d'en extraire le paradigme régional et la pensée géographique qui sont d'inspiration typiquement vidalienne. Une telle étude permet de mieux saisir comment Raoul Blanchard fut le grand ordonnateur de la monographie régionale classique. Son célèbre tableau géographique du Québec constitue l'exemple très curieux d'une véritable « oeuvre dans l'oeuvre ». Si Raoul Blanchard représente un moment important dans l'histoire de la géographie francophone, sa grande fresque de la Belle Province interpelle et questionne les géographes québécois contemporains. L'oeuvre de Raoul Blanchard constitue l'un des plus vivants témoignages d'une foi inébranlable dans notre discipline.
