Abstract
Cet article examine la façon dont Marie-Claire Blais, dans la trilogie Soifs, convoque des personnages et des textes significatifs de la littérature afin de mettre en relief l’une des constantes thématiques de la trilogie, à savoir la souffrance et l’innocence des victimes du xxe siècle et de l’époque actuelle. Par son ampleur et son insistance, le travail intertextuel tend à se présenter comme une réflexion sur la littérature, conçue non pas comme un refuge dans lequel des consciences troublées par le chaos et la violence du monde d’aujourd’hui peuvent trouver un peu de paix et de beauté préservées de ce même chaos, mais comme un lieu de distance d’où s’établit un point de vue sur le monde, un lieu où le sujet contemporain peut retrouver des traces de ses propres interrogations sur le mal et sur la mort.
