Résumé Face à l’augmentation de la concurrence, les dirigeants investissent de plus en plus dans des activités de promotion des ventes et veulent en optimiser les retombées. Pour faire ces promotions, ils recourent à divers techniques, comme réduire les prix, offrir des primes, présenter des jeux associés à des prix, lancer des concours, proposer un essai ou donner des échantillons. Toutefois, ces promotions n’ont pas toujours les effets positifs attendus et peuvent même avoir des effets négatifs. Une question se pose alors : qu’est-ce qui influe sur l’efficacité des promotions ? Nous appuyant sur une revue de la documentation et sur des entrevues menées auprès de clients et de responsables des ventes, nous proposons aux dirigeants et aux cadres de se poser les questions clés suivantes au sujet de la gestion des promotions afin d’en optimiser le succès : quoi et pourquoi ? comment ? quand ? combien ? où ? par qui ?
