Parmi les outils et processus d’aide à la décision mobilisés face aux enjeux de long terme qu’implique la transition énergétique, la prospective occupe une place centrale. Dans cet article, nous nous intéressons à la manière dont les évolutions des modes de vie – qui constituent une composante fondamentale des consommations d’énergie directe et indirecte – sont considérées dans les exercices de prospective énergétique. A cette fin, treize exercices menés à l’échelle de la France sont passés au crible d’une grille de lecture ciblée. Ce travail confirme le constat d’une prise en compte très partielle des évolutions des modes de vie dans la plupart des exercices de prospective. Néanmoins l’enjeu fait partie des questions émergentes comme l’illustre un petit nombre d’exercices récents. Complétée d’une monographie de cinq études et projets de recherche pionniers, la revue de littérature permet d’amorcer une réflexion sur les perspectives qu’offre la prise en considération d’évolutions des modes de vie dans les exercices à caractère prospectif dans le cadre de la transition énergétique. Les limites des outils de modélisation prospective actuels dans ce contexte d’utilisation sont également abordées.
