Abstract
Cet article se veut à la fois théorique et orienté vers des questionnements historiques. Il se fonde d'une part sur la relecture d'un certain nombre d'ouvrages relatifs au métissage et, d'autre part, sur l'étude des formes d'usage du concept chez des écrivains et des intellectuels africains et caraïbes. L'auteur esquisse d'abord les significations du terme et le champ sémantique dans lequel il s'insère pour ensuite tracer un tableau des différentes formes de métissage. Enfin, il s'interroge sur les fonctions de l'usage de la notion de métissage des années 30 jusqu'à nos jours, où elle acquiert, dans le contexte de la réémergence des nationalismes en Europe de l'Est et du réemploi de notions comme celle de pureté ethnique, une nouvelle et brûlante actualité.
