Abstract
Alors que la dernière exposition de Jeff Wall dans une institution française date déjà de 1995 (Jeu de Paume), deux ouvrages viennent aujourd'hui compléter l'imposant catalogue raisonné de l'œuvre de l'artiste canadien dont la rétrospective, dans l'immense écrin du Schaulager 1 de Bâle en 2005, a montré toute la splendeur.Ajoutant son nom à la liste des critiques à jamais associés à un artiste ou à un mouvement, Jean-François Chevrier signe ici un essai de haute volée, revenant sur la carrière de Jeff Wall tout en insistant sur les pièces les plus récentes.Il est constant -et les auteurs du deuxième ouvrage savent s'en saisir avec un plaisir non dissimulé-que l'œuvre et les écrits de J. Wall offrent un terrain de jeu d'une exigence intellectuelle rare.
