Abstract
Exilé d’Haïti en 1976, Dany Laferrière y est retourné vingt ans plus tard pour découvrir un espace changé et souvent incompréhensible. Dans Pays sans chapeau , l’auteur propose une portion de son « autobiographie américaine ». Il plonge ses lecteurs dans une confusion organisée entre plusieurs univers opposés en apparence : le pays réel et le pays rêvé, la vie vécue et la fiction, le monde intime et le monde extérieur. L’analyse, orientée par des notions de narratologie, démontre que ces espaces apparemment séparés s’imbriquent au cours d’un voyage vers l’Haïti géographique et spirituelle. Cette (con)fusion des mondes permet à l’auteur-narrateur d’afficher une identité plurielle et d’offrir un récit où les frontières deviennent perméables au fil de la traversée que constitue la lecture.
