À partir de Lettres et colères de PierreVadeboncoeur, cet article propose une étude de la représentation de la démocratie dans les années1960 en Amérique (États-Unis, Canada, Québec). Il se donne comme point de départ la vision du système démocratique américain du XIXe siècle présente dans l'ouvrage d'Alexis de Tocqueville, De la démocratie en Amérique . L'analyse montre les ressemblances et les différences socio-politiques entre les deux visions, indique les modes du discours (argumentation, narration) utilisés, pour finalement attirer l'attention sur les structurations gnoséologiques du texte de Vadeboncoeur.
