Cet article vise à identifier, dans une perspective comparative, les retombées sociales et les contributions spécifiques des jardins communautaires et collectifs de la conurbation de Québec pour les communautés locales. Ces retombées ont été évaluées pour quatre dimensions (socio-économique, socio-environnementale, socio-spatiale et socio-politique) ayant été identifiées au préalable lors d’une recension des écrits pertinents. Une étude empirique combinant des visites sur le terrain, le recours à un questionnaire et des entretiens de groupe a permis de recueillir des données qualitatives et quantitatives liées à chacune de ces dimensions. L’analyse permet de conclure que malgré certaines particularités liées à leur mission respective, et contrairement aux représentations que l’on s’en fait généralement, les retombées sociales des jardins communautaires et des jardins collectifs de la région se rejoignent davantage qu’elles ne les distinguent. En conclusion, les auteurs invitent le mouvement pour le développement l’agriculture urbaine, en pleine expansion au Québec, à prendre acte de ces constats.
