Abstract
La notion de développement se retrouve généralement dans les débats sur les langues officielles au Canada. Comment les différents acteurs communautaires se représentent-ils cette notion ? Ce texte propose que les représentations du développement découlent des effets structurants du contexte plus global du débat sur les langues officielles au Canada. Après un survol de l’évolution du débat sur le développement, ce texte vérifie les effets du Plan d’action pour les langues officielles, compris comme une institution qui à la fois structure l’action de la société civile et qui lui procure des ressources, sur les représentations du développement véhiculées par l’Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario et par la Société des Acadiens et Acadiennes du Nouveau-Brunswick. Dans les deux cas, les représentations du développement semblent influencées par l’action du gouvernement fédéral dans le domaine des langues officielles.
