Abstract
Le roman historique entretient un double rapport avec l'histoire : lui-même objet d'histoire, il se sert de l'histoire pour créer un univers romanesque. Il deviendra donc un témoin privilégié de l'évolution du féminisme. A travers le travail des romancières de l'histoire depuis plus d'un siècle, cet article analyse, en môme temps que l'emprise des idéologies sur les auteures, l'évolution de l'image de la femme. D'abord sainte femme, effacée et soumise, au service des aspirations héroïques de l'homme, celle-ci deviendra la femme forte, attelée à bâtir un pays, pour enfin se révéler une femme sûre d'elle et capable de jouer un rôle déterminant, tant dans l'histoire réelle que dans l'histoire romanesque.
