Abstract
Cette note critique poursuit le débat que nous avons engagé avec René Hardy à propos du réveil religieux du XIXe siècle. Elle pose comme hypothèse que l'enjeu principal ne réside pas dans le choix à faire entre les termes de « réveil » ou de « renouveau », mais se situe dans la question centrale de la recherche et dans le modèle conceptuel ayant servi à la construction de l'objet historique. Aux divergences provenant des théories de la religion et de la culture s'ajoutent des différences liées aux données plus anciennes et plus variées utilisées par notre groupe de recherche. Des illustrations sont données à propos de la communion pascale, des vocations féminines et masculines, et des associations volontaires paroissiales.
