Abstract
En nous centrant sur des pratiques plus « généralistes » du travail social qui ont souvent émergé à sa périphérie (organisateurs communautaires de CLSC, agents de relations humaines, employés dans les organisations communautaires de santé et de services sociaux, etc.), nous souhaitons prolonger la réflexion amorcée dans la revue Nouvelles pratiques sociales voulant que le travail social ne soit pas à la remorque du changement social mais participe plutôt, avec d'autres, au renouvellement des pratiques (Mathieu, 1999). L'exemple du travail social pratiqué dans les champs de l'entraide économique, de l'insertion par le travail, du développement local et de l'économie sociale servira de démonstration. Cette démonstration sera précédée d'une analyse du travail social et de ses transformations depuis 40 ans (1960-2000), analyse qui nous amènera à conclure à la capacité de rebondir de la profession lors des crises successives (d'identité et de légitimité) que cette dernière a vécues et non à son repli identitaire.
