Abstract
À la parution en 1953 de Poussière sur la ville d'André Langevin, peu de critiques font le lien entre Macklin, la ville minière au centre du récit, et la ville d'Asbestos, théâtre de la grève de l'Amiante de 1949. Ceci paraît d'autant plus curieux que le roman se prête particulièrement bien à une lecture idéologique : son personnage principal, Alain Dubois, défend des valeurs nouvelles dans un milieu contraignant et conformiste. Durant cette même période, la société québécoise, sous l'emprise d'un discours conservateur, est remise en question par les jeunes intellectuels de Cité Libre. Une étude comparative entre les valeurs de Dubois et celles de la revue Cité Libre permet de voir que le roman reprend l'idéologie de contestation et montre aussi sa face cachée, que symbolise le personnage de Madeleine.
