Résumé Les sociétés actuelles sont de plus en plus confrontées aux questions de diversité culturelle, ethnique et religieuse. Le travail social et la formation en travail social ne peuvent ignorer ces questions et les abordent différemment selon la société dans laquelle ils se situent. Ce texte présente dans une première partie une typologie des pratiques d’intervention sociale face à la diversité culturelle dans plusieurs pays. Trois paradigmes sont identifiés selon l’approche d’intervention privilégiée : la mise en avant du rapport à l’autre, la définition de la diversité et le contexte sociopolitique de ces sociétés. L’article propose une mise en perspective de ces paradigmes autour des pratiques de formation en service social dans plusieurs pays et ensuite une recherche-action dans un département de service social d’une université du Québec à titre d’illustration des réflexions et actions envisageables.
