Abstract
La sociologie comme pratique et comme discipline au Québec a pris naissance dans l'Église catholique à partir d'une reconnaissance progressive de la «question sociale» (synonyme ici de «question ouvrière»). Après le développement de la sociologie le playsienne, branche tourvillienne (Léon Gérin), une «sociologie doctrinale» a pris racine avec la dénonciation, dans la foulée du catholicisme social, de la « misère imméritée » des travailleurs. En analysant les cas de l'ACJC et de l'ACS, cet article met en lumière l'intérêt croissant, dans les mouvements de jeunesse catholiques, pour les sciences sociales en général et pour la sociologie en particulier. Il dégage en outre l'évolution disciplinaire et pratique que rend possible le passage d'un à l'autre mouvement.
