Il y a tout lieu de croire : c’est une action à chaque jour nécessaire. Depuis toujours, elle est au centre des échanges et du commerce que les humains négocient entre eux. La croyance a donc une importance civile, séculière, éthique et politique. Toutefois, le religieux, dans la variété de ses expériences, semble faire main basse sur l’acte de croire au point de le soustraire à son usage commun. Pratique très ancienne, le croire est en interdépendance avec des institutions et des formes qui en structurent l’exécution et en garantissent l’accomplissement. L’hypermédiatisation contemporaine rend la situation très confuse alors que plusieurs paramètres essentiels bougent en même temps. Les échanges qui donnent lieu au croire doivent pouvoir se nouer à l’intérieur de systèmes de signes parfois contradictoires. Dans le relevé complexe des lieux du croire, Jacques Derrida nous sert de guide. Il propose d’explorer la croyance comme l’une de deux veines du religieux. Il nous avertit cependant de tenir ouverte l’autre veine, celle du sacré, du saint et du sang qui court en parallèle à la fiduciarité. Afin de nous déprendre des filets de la technique, Derrida privilégie un lieu d’abstraction, le désert. C’est le lieu d’une messianicité sans messianisme, là où peut se dire et s’entendre un Oui, un Amen, un Fiat qui inaugurent aussi bien l’éthique que le politique. Les voix de Hannah Arendt, Michel de Certeau et A. J. Greimas interviennent dans ce commerce avec Jacques Derrida.
