Abstract

High definition content delivery over IP networks has become a reality in the entertainment market. However, such networks are subject to packet loss, especially on the last mile link. This paper presents a roadmap for predicting the packet loss effect on the quality rating. The quality of the delivered video was evaluated objectively in IPTV emulated environment subject to loss impairments. Objective measurements were validated by subjective assessments. High correlating models were developed for the prediction of overall user judgment based on objective and instantaneous perceived quality of impaired HD IPTV. Guidelines were also drawn for estimating viewers’ instantaneous responses.
