Le théologien Henri Bouillard confronte les conceptions weilienne et lévinasienne de Dieu, parce qu’il ne les partage pas entièrement : pour lui comme pour les deux philosophes, Dieu n’est pas un étant ; mais pour lui contrairement à Éric Weil, Dieu transcende le monde ; et pour lui contrairement à Emmanuel Lévinas, Dieu ne reste pas transcendant, il devient immanent au monde en s’incarnant en Jésus.
